Hoodie-Wearing Gunmen Kill 1, Wound 5 in Bobby Rush’s Chicago District

March 31, 2012 Comments off

Former Black Panther Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) made quite a fuss when he donned a “hoodie” during a speech in the U.S. House of Representatives until he was escorted out. At the time, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi D-CA “applauded his courage” for doing so. Meanwhile, back home in Rush’s district, two men wearing hooded sweatshirts, or “hoodies,” were the shooters in an incident that left one dead and five injured. In fact, during a span of six-hours Thursday night, 13 people were shot, leaving two dead in Chicago. It would seem it takes more courage to simply walk down the street in Rush’s district than it does to wear a hooded sweatshirt in the House of Representatives by way of a stunt in a bizarre tribute to a young man shot and killed in Florida during a shooting incident still under investigation. via Hoodie-Wearing Gunmen Kill 1, Wound 5 in Bobby Rush’s Chicago District.

Next time the Regime identifies a group of people as “domestic terrorists,” the result might be summary execution, or imprisonment in military custody, rather than a trial. This is one very plausible result of the dismissal of “seditious conspiracy” charges against members of Michigan’s Hutaree militia.  Thanks to the legal environment created by the NDAA, the Feds won’t have to run the risk involved in submitting the next “domestic terrorism” case to the scrutiny of a court… via Pro Libertate

A Cashless Society May Be Closer Than Most People Would Ever Dare To Imagine

Most people think of a cashless society as something that is way off in the distant future.  Unfortunately, that is simply not the case.  The truth is that a cashless society is much closer than most people would ever dare to imagine.  To a large degree, the transition to a cashless society is being done voluntarily.  Today, only 7 percent of all transactions in the United States are done with cash, and most of those transactions involve very small amounts of money.  Just think about it for a moment.  Where do you still use cash these days?  If you buy a burger or if you purchase something at a flea market you will still use cash, but for any mid-size or large transaction the vast majority of people out there will use another form of payment.  Our financial system is…

VP Joe Biden: “Trayvon case could spur gun laws debate” | CBS News + a Grey Enigma rant

March 31, 2012 1 comment

RANT WARNING:  Joe Biden is an ideologue and an idiot, but he is part of a dangerous cabal that may flourish after November 2012.  Make no mistake about it, if Obama is reelected there will almost certainly be a new initiative to regulate the personal ownership, possession and carrying of firearms in this country. These people are dangerous in that they cannot conceive of why an individual should want (or be allowed) to take responsibility for their own safety.  I assume they think that the government will take care of that too.

Their recent previous efforts have back fired , i.e.:  Gun walker, fast and furious, Gabby Giffords shooting propaganda and , now, they will try to make hay on the corpse of Trayvon Martin and reputation of George Zimmerman. Read more…

The Polite Conference Rooms Where Liberties Are Saved and Lost | Chris Hedges

March 27, 2012 Comments off

…It is in conference rooms like this one, where attorneys speak in the arcane and formal language of legal statutes, that we lose or save our civil liberties. The 2001 Authorization to Use Military Force Act, the employment of the Espionage Act by the Obama White House against six suspected whistle-blowers and leakers, and the Homeland Battlefield Bill have crippled the work of investigative reporters in every major newsroom in the country.  Government sources that once provided information to counter official narratives and lies have largely severed contact with the press.  They are acutely aware that there is no longer any legal protection for those who dissent or who expose the crimes of state.  The NDAA threw in a new and dangerous component that permits the government not only to silence journalists but imprison them and deny them due process because they “substantially supported” terrorist groups or “associated forces.”via Common Dreams.

Tens of millions of households are too poor to buy a home (the FDIC calculated 40% of the U.S. households have insufficient income and credit to buy a home) without massive subsidies, and with no skin in the game their purchase is basically a lease with an option to sell later for a private gain at the expense of the government. The Death of Trayvon Martin: Is There Nothing Progressives Won’t Exploit? |Townhall

March 25, 2012 Comments off

A 17-year-old kid is shot dead. Police are investigating…and progressives see an opportunity. The Trayvon Martin case, in addition to being a tragedy, is a case study in political exploitation and progressive tactics.

The shooting death of a 17-year-old is horrible, whatever the circumstances and no matter their race. But progressives seem to care about this case only because of the race of the victim. There are thousands of murders that don’t “fit the bill” for exploitation and thus are ignored by these self-appointed “justice seekers.”

What happened that night? I don’t know. But neither do any of the race hustlers, such as Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, who speak of it as if they are clairvoyant. They care deeply about Trayvon’s family… as long as there are cameras around…. via Derek Hunter – Townhall Conservative Columnists

Executive Order on “Natural Resources Defense Preparedness” | Volokh Conspiracy

March 21, 2012 Comments off

And in a counterpoint of sanity we read this at Volokh, referencing Ed Morrissey at HotAir:

Some corners of the internet were abuzz this weekend over a new Executive Order signed by President Obama on Friday concerning “Natural Resources Defense Preparedness NDRP” The EO, which seeks to ensure the country has “an industrial and technological base capable of meeting national defense requirements and capable of contributing to the technological superiority of its national defense equipment in peacetime and in times of national emergency,” is the stuff of which conspiracy theories are made.

Yet there’s no there there.  The EO is simply an update of prior orders on the same subject going back decades to, among other things, account for changes in the cabinet and the like. if this is a presidential power grab — and I don’t believe it is — the power was grabbed decades ago. My read on this is that, in large measure, the Supreme Court has kicked the can down the road on the real question of the relationship between unilateral bureaucracy actions vs. the individuals right to appeal to a court. The Associated Press reports:

The Supreme Court has sided with an Idaho couple in a property rights case, ruling they can go to court to challenge an Environmental Protection Agency order that blocked construction of their new home and threatened fines of more than $30,000 a day.

Wednesday’s decision is a victory for Mike and Chantell Sackett, whose property near a scenic lake has sat undisturbed since the EPA ordered a halt in work in 2007. The agency said part of the property was a wetlands that could not disturbed without a permit.

In an opinion by Justice Antonin Scalia, the court rejected EPA’s argument that allowing property owners quick access to courts to contest orders like the one issued to the Sacketts would compromise the agency’s ability to deal with water pollution.

What is President Obama so afraid of? (NDRP Executive Order) | Sovereign Man

March 20, 2012 Comments off

Quietly, and with little fanfare, President Obama signed a “National Defense Resources Preparedness” Executive Order on Friday. As the name suggests, the order intends to shore up the country’s national defense resources in advance of a national emergency.

To be fair, this is not the first time that such an order has been written. Presidents Bush (II), Clinton, Reagan, and even Eisenhower provided directives in the same spirit as President Obama’s order– providing some level of government commandeering in times of national emergency.

In the past, these orders have related to things like production capacity for defense contractors, or giving FEMA authority to resolve disputes between other departments in federally designated emergency areas.

President Obama’s order, however, takes things much, much further. Read more…

Journal of The long sunspot cycle 23 predicts a significant temperature decrease in cycle 24 | ScienceDirect.com

Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics.  Relations between the length of a sunspot cycle and the average temperature in the same and the next cycle are calculated for a number of meteorological stations in Norway and in the North Atlantic region. No significant trend is found between the length of a cycle and the average temperature in the same cycle, but a significant negative trend is found between the length of a cycle and the temperature in the next cycle. This provides a tool to predict an average temperature decrease of at least View the MathML source from solar cycle 23 to solar cycle 24 for the stations and areas analyzed. We find for the Norwegian local stations investigated that 25–56% of the temperature increase the last 150 years may be attributed to the Sun. For 3 North Atlantic stations we get 63–72% solar contribution. This points to the Atlantic currents as reinforcing a solar signal.
