NJ: Police shoot, kill Father-of-the-Year in New Brunswick

Diahlo Grant, reportedly armed, was shot and killed by Franklin Township police at 1:30AM after they reportedly confronted him over outstanding warrants for violation of probation and failure to pay child support.  You will have to wade through the agit-prop in the actual “report” video at CBS to get to that fact though, as they are to busy painting the guy as father of the year.

Dialho Grant, of Somerset, was pursued by two Franklin Township police officers after an encounter on Somerset and Home Streets, officials said.  The officers followed Grant across the town border into New Brunswick where an exchange of gunfire occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m., according to police. Grant was wounded in the exchange and one of the police officers involved provided cardio-pulmonary resuscitation while waiting for emergency medial personnel to arrive at the scene. Grant was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and was pronounced dead  Grant’s gun was recovered at the scene.leaves behind six children … Source: Officials Investigate…

Mr. Father-of-the-Year leaves behind 5 (soon to be 6) kids, and an indeterminate number of baby mommas, because he was out wandering the streets, illegally armed, at 1:30AM on a Saturday night.  All the family men I know were home at time watching over their kids.

None had outstanding warrants at the time.

Righteous shoot. Only problem I continually have, is why, since the 1990s when the 9mm police craze took place, haven’t departments gone to .45acp caliber, as reems of post shooting incident indicate supporting facts that the 9mm caliber is insufficient without critical shot placement. The gain of additional rounds in the service weapon are negated with requiring additional shots fired. Europe, the philosophy is to “shoot to wound”. In America, the thought is to shoot to stop, and the best way to stop, is to kill the opponent. Service weapons, are not for the timid. The service weapon is not meant to be chic, avantgarde, or socially acceptable. It must do an unpleasant task, without endangering third party life or property. Terminal ballistics at autopsy, tells the true results. If the perpetrator was shot with a .45 acp, events would have been terminated rapidly.

Agreed, but that argument is countered by liklihood of a round striking the target. I constantly read reports of cops emptying volleys of 10’s of rounds at bad guys, with one or none striking. If true, the benefit of capacity swamps the benefit of efficacy of a single round that does hit. No?

The cops are “tromboning”. Watching the slide move and, NYPD trigger weights @12#.
