NY: Where’s the love for farmers? The Times – Herkimer

LISLE — Doreen Barker never wanted to leave New York.

Originally from Dryden, a dairy town near Ithaca, Barker, 40, and Richard Barrows, 53, decided in early 2009 to bring animals back to the 350-acre, 165-year-old Barrows Farm in Lisle.

They started with chickens, adding cows — and the watering system and other infrastructure necessary to have them — in the coming years. They invested in rotational grazing, raised calves for meat to be sold locally and dreamed of soon having a value-added dairy operation.

Then they realized they simply couldn’t afford to do so.

Barrows and Barker likely aren’t the only farmers to come to that conclusion. According to the Agribusiness Friendliness Index, released early last year by three Colorado State University researchers, New York is one of the least friendly states in the country — ranked 49 out of 50 — when it comes to agribusiness.

“It’s most of the measures dealing with government that really seem to knock New York down,” said researcher Gregory Perry, who also is the head of the university’s Agricultural and Resource Economics department.

Perry said New York is 41st in property taxes, 46th in infrastructure and dead last when it comes to ease of filing a lawsuit — in other words, it’s easy for neighbors to take farms to court over nuisance smells and the like, and it’s hard for farms to win.

Joe Morrissey, public information officer for the state Department of Agriculture and Markets, doesn’t agree.

“We couldn’t disagree more with this report’s findings about New York, which we believe has a thriving agricultural sector thanks in great part to a strong partnership between state government and industry,” he said in an email. “In fact, New York farmers set a record in 2013 with $5.68 billion in cash receipts, which was more than $1 billion (more) than just three years earlier. New York is also a national leader in dairy, maple syrup and apple production, and we rank in the top 10 nationally in a number of fruit and vegetable categories.”

Morrissey said over the past four years, the state has set forth policies, passed laws and initiated marketing programs that have led to an all-time high interest in New York agriculture. They include:

• Launch of the Taste NY marketing program;

• Revamping of the farmland protection program;

•Legislation on the first-ever farm cidery and farm brewery license, as well as the Craft NY Act to further the growth of the farm-based beverage industry;

• Legislation to cap agricultural land assessments at 2 percent per year, ensuring a predictable tax climate for farmers; and…

Leaked Counter Terrorism Bulletin Warns Police of Impending ‘Far-Right Violence’ | Reclaim Our Republic & InfoWars

Bulletin warns of those who believe in “government gun confiscation”

June 13, 2014 by Mikael Thalen

A leaked New York State Counter Terrorism Bulletin provided exclusively to Infowars reveals how law enforcement are being told to prepare for increased violence from “far-right extremists.”

Published by the New York State Intelligence Center, the document, entitled “CTB 14-07: Recent Spike in Violence Targeting Law Enforcement,” details several recent shootings while warning police to be on the look out for people displaying anti-government viewpoints. Excerpts:

“Over the last week there have been three attacks – one in Canada and two in the United States – in which law enforcement officers were targeted, leading to the death of five officers and one civilian,” the bulletin states. “Based upon reporting it appears all the suspects in these incidents were motivated by elements of a far right anti-government ideology with a particular fixation on law enforcement.

Michael Brian Vanderboegh, a longtime militia member and founder of the III Percent Patriot Movement which was supported by Jerad and Amanda Miller, traveled to NYS at least once in 2013 to speak to the Liberty Oath Keepers meeting in Monticello, NY.  The III Percent Patriots are a militia group comprised primarily of gun rights extremists who believe in the need to use violence against the government to prevent what they believe to be an impending seizure of all private firearms. The name derives from “an obscure, and not particularly accurate, Revolutionary War ‘statistic’ that claimed that only 3% of the American population during the Revolutionary War participated as combatants in the war. ..

The Oath Keepers is an organization composed of current and former military and law enforcement personnel who take a pledge to not obey unconstitutional orders such as orders to disarm the American people, to conduct warrantless searches, or to detain Americans as enemy combatants.  There have been multiple observed instances of overlapping membership in the Oath Keepers and the III Percent Patriots, and the Oath Keepers’ founder has spoken supportively of the III Percent Patriot Movement.

The recent attacks serve to highlight a trend of growing violence by far right extremists that is likely to continue in the near term.  While attacks by lone offenders or small groups, common amongst far right extremists, are often difficult to detect and can occur with little or no warning, law enforcement should remain vigilant to any indicators or suspicious activity related to the persistent far right extremist threat...”

BREAKING: CONNECTICUT POLICE REFUSE TO ENFORCE NEW GUN CONTROL LAWS!

Powdered Wig Society

by Clark Kent, America’s Freedom Fighters

A showdown is developing between a sizable number of Connecticut state police officers and the politicians who passed into law highly restrictive gun control, gun bans, and bans on high capacity magazines.

Gun rights legal expert and activist David Hardy reported Friday that 250 law enforcement officers in Connecticut have signed an open letter stating that they will not enforce the new anti-gun and magazine laws, which they consider to be a violation of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

A major news story on these developments is due to be published soon, but Hardy received an advanced notice via email from Tyler Jackson, the head of the Connecticut Peace Officers Association, the organization that sent the open letter.

According to Hardy,

“Tyler Jackson has emailed me an interesting story, soon to appear online (I’ll link to it once it does)– the gist is that the head of the Connecticut…

CT Governor Dannel Malloy to Gun Owners: “Your Side Lost,” Get Over It | DC Clothesline

by Tim Brown

Dannel Malloy CT
Dannel Malloy CT Gov. & Douchebag

As Connecticut is in the midst of a very serious situation regarding guns and gun registration, Governor Dannel Malloy attended a town meeting this week to address constituents at John Barry Elementary School in Meriden, Connecticut. During that event, a pro-gun citizen, who has opposed the legislation signed into law by Malloy, which requires gun owners to register their semi-automatic rifles and high-capacity magazines or be considered felons, asked how Malloy could push legislation that is against law abiding gun owners while abolishing the death penalty and offered early release for violent criminals. Malloy’s answer was not to point to the State Constitution, but to point to the people’s desire to “feel safe.” In that respect, he told the questioner that the legislation regarding gun registration had gone through each branch of government and “your side lost.” In essence, Malloy said, “Get over it.” Continue reading

CT gun confiscation circus: Meet your Masters, peons | The Grey Enigma

Lt. J. Paul Vance, Sr. – CT State Police Spokesman
Your Master and a Constitutionally ignorant douche bag

It gives me no joy to participate in ad hominem attacks, but given the trampling of the United States Constitution that appears to be underway in the once great state of Connecticut I thought that the taxpayers there might like a little additional information about the CT State “Masters” facilitating this fiasco.  Because he has chosen, or been forced to, make himself the face of Der Staat let’s have a closer look at spokesperson Lieut. Tensions on the rise in Conn. after Tyrants names and addresses published | Eatgrueldog

via Eat Gruel Dog

“Tensions continue to rise in Connecticut, as the home addresses of the legislators who voted for the ban have been posted on numerous web sites and forums. Many of the legislators are now calling for police protective details, regarding the publication of their home addresses as a threat to their safety.”

What’s wrong? Afraid of a few angry gun owners that you have made into felons? You are the ones who made them criminals; You have said it. Now you have to hope that some criminal doesn’t torch your house in the middle of the night and shoot whatever comes running out. It may not even be someone from your state. The affront that you have done is grievous enough that some “Whack job” (formerly law abiding citizen) may travel in from elsewhere to help. Will your fear be enough to frighten you from tyranny? No, probably not. Instead you will consume enormous amounts of state resources to protect yourself and double down on your tyranny. Here’s wishing you the best from the iii…… via Eatgrueldog.

…Politicians in Connecticut have grossly overplayed their hand with the state’s so-called “assault weapon” ban and registration act.  Being politicians, they seem to feel they are above consequence for their actions, and so it seems as if they will push ahead with plans to attempt to bring the owners of more than 350,000 “undocumented” firearms and nearly 2 million standard capacity magazines to heal.  There are but 1,120 sworn officers in the Connecticut State Police as of last week.  There are though to be between 80,000-100,000 owners of “undocumented” firearms and magazines, along with perhaps hundreds of thousands of sympathetic owners of various other arms… go here and go here for the full list of tyrants (originially published at Sipsey Street Irregulars)

Registration Doesn’t Mean Confiscation ?

Guffaw in AZ

LIKE HELL IT DOESN’T!

Connecticut has an “assault weapon” problem.

Politicians rammed through a law demanding that citizens register scary-looking firearms and standard capacity magazines, and the citizenry overwhelmingly responded by being “militantly sedentary.”

Gun owners sat on their butts and refused to register either arms or magazines, all but daring the state to do anything about it.

Of the estimated 375,000-400,000 firearms deemed “assault weapons” by the state,  more than 325,000 remain undocumented. Only about 50,000 were registered for future confiscation.

The requirement to register standard capacity magazines was laughed at even louder by the citizenry; just 38,000 (less than 2 percent) of an estimated 2 million standard capacity magazines holding greater than ten rounds of ammunition were registered with the state.  (Bearingarms.com)

Connecticut Gun Confiscation Letters in the Mail to New “Constitution Felons”

“……….

Should the governor of Connecticut decide to go through with forcible house-by-house searching it will lead to shooting and loss of lives. The question to be pondered is whether or not such a grave risk is prudent, unless it is to cover some type of FALSE FLAG OPERATION that has been practiced and bolstered through drama and theatrics. Sandy Hook Elementary School, in that case would be revealed as many have be claiming, as a False Flag Operation perpetrated by the government. Possibility exists that should there be violence, it will only spread, then what of, property damage, physical injury, serious physical injury, and death, resulting?”  comment by  Brittius

The Gun Rights Consensus: The real reasons the Senate trounced the Obama agenda | WSJ

A pretty shameful day for Washington,” President Obama called it, with “pretty” being the only remnant of his famous cool. In the Rose Garden, Obama blamed the failure of gun control in the Senate Wednesday on three causes:

  1. The gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill.
  2. The Senators who voted against it are cowardly and had “…no coherent arguments as to why we wouldn’t do this. It came down to politics...”
  3. And finally”…a minority was able to block it from moving forward…” through “…this continuing distortion of Senate rules.”

The media are amplifying Mr. Obama’s themes with less subtlety, amid a collective aneurysm in Washington and New York. Yet this combination of animus and overreach explains why the post-Newtown gun debate has been such a lost opportunity. Continue reading

Notes on the Connecticut gun grab via Ol’ Remus & the Woodpile Report

Legislators in Connecticut voted for a ban so-called “assault” weapons, a ban on private party sales of used guns, creates a new “ammunition eligibility certificate,” and mandates a ban on the manufacture or sale and a registry for high capacity magazines. Do these buffoons have any concept of how many millions of magazines larger that 10 round capacity exist, or that virtually none of them carry a serial number?, says James Rawles in this article, Connecticut Gun Owners Betrayed by Their State Legislature, at Survival Blog.

I hope that Connecticut gun owners as well as gun, ammo and magazine makers vote with their feet. There are a lot of gun-related companies there: Colt, Winchester, Marlin (which recently shut down after 141 years of operation in Connecticut), Mossberg, Sturm-Ruger, H&R, Stag Arms, A.H. Fox, US Fire Arms, Wildey, Shelton Ammunition, Okay Industries, Ronan/NHMTG, C-Products, Mec-Gar, G.T.B., and many more. James Rawles at survivalblog.com

Emily Miller at the Washington Times summarizes the incredible details of Connecticut’s new gun law. Warning – it’s extreme, bordering on insanity from the insanity side of the border.

Remus says – An AP article tells us “House Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero Jr., R-Norwalk, who helped craft the bill, said he realizes the gun owners are unhappy with the bill, but he stressed that no one will lose their legally owned guns or magazines under the legislation.” Note two things. First, we truly have a two party one-party system. Republicans revealed their craven ways again, they were fully on board with this. When the vote was taken, gun owners had no representation, the collectivists knew this, consequently there were no concessions, not even to reality.

In Connecticut, we’ve broken the mold. Democrats and Republicans were able to come to an agreement on a strong, comprehensive bill. That is a message that should resound in 49 other states and in Washington, D.C.
Senate President Williams Jr., via Susan Haigh, AP at news.yahoo.com

Second, note the legaleese “no one will lose their legally owned guns or magazines.” The banning of this or that is not the point. Laws create criminals where none were before, that is the intent of law. Connecticut now has a whole new criminal class: gun owners. Background checks? How long before even wanting a gun is evidence of dangerous mental instability?

It takes a twisted sense of humor for Connecticut to call itself the Constitution State. Somewhere, Nathan Hale is puking.

I am so satisfied with the cause in which I have engaged, that my only regret is, that I have not more lives than one to offer in its service.  Nathan Hale, via Independent Chronicle and the Universal Advertiser, May 17, 1781

Medicated To Mass Murder | YouViewed/Editorial

“… Here’s a spot quiz: Aside from personal or familial Democrat party affiliations, what’s the single thing that ties together all of the young mass murderers who have wreaked havoc at least since Columbine? If you answered “psychotropic drugs,” you get to go to the head of the class. With the exception of jihadist killers, who were drugged out on their own faith, all of the big-name American killers in the last few decades – everyone from the Columbine killers to Adam Lanza – were young men on SSRIs, Ritalin or Adderall.

The only one as to whom the verdict was still out was James Holmes, aka the “Batman” shooter. Most people believed that he was on prescription behavior drugs, but that was hearsay, not proof. Any doubts on that score, though, are now over. Alex Jones’ InfoWars.com reports that court records show that Holmes, like others before and after him, had been on SSRIs when he went on his shooting rampage:…”   via YouViewed/Editorial.

Report: Newtown Shooter Researched Several Mass Murderers | Frontline

Before Adam Lanza carried out the mass shooting at Newtown Elementary School three months ago, he had conducted research on several mass murderers, The Hartford Courant reports today.

Citing sources close to the investigation, the newspapaper reports that articles and documents related to other mass murders were found in one of two bedrooms Lanza used in the house he shared with his mother, Nancy.

Last month, the Courant reported that police investigators found several articles about Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian man convicted of the July 2011 shooting and bombing attack in Norway that killed 77 people, in Lanza’s bedroom.

State police have periodically been providing updates to victims’ families, Sandy Hook teachers and first responders. Last week, they shared the theory that Lanza was trying to outdo other killers, according the Courant sources.

Danbury State’s Attorney Stephen Sedensky said he hopes the final report on the massacre will be completed by the end of June.

Update 3:00 pm: A source told the Stamford Advocate that state police discovered that Lanza had collected information on ”virtually every mass murder” in the U.S. and abroad, and had exhibited a particular interest in an October 2006 shooting at an Amish schoolhouse in Lancaster County, Penn. that killed five school girls and the gunman. “There was a lot of material on the Amish case,” the source told the paper. The source also said investigators were able to track some of Lanza’s movements prior to the shooting through cell phone technology, noting that he made a number of trips to the Danbury Fair mall in April and May. ”For someone who almost never left his house, it was really out of character,” the source said.

Some NJ bills could cancel all NJ Firearms ID cards and mandate police turn-in or face felony charges | Evan Nappen via ANJRPC

By Evan F. Nappen, Attorney at Law (Exclusive to ANJRPC)

Out of the 23 bills recently filed in New Jersey, three dealing with mental health evaluations as a condition of issuance of FID cards contain potential severe unintended consequences that could invalidate every FID card in the state. They are A3688 (sponsors: Mainor and Jimenez), A3667 (sponsors: Cryan, O’Donnell, and Jasey) and A3676 (sponsor: Jimenez.)  All three of these bills require a mental health evaluation approved by the Superintendent of State police as a condition for issuance of a New Jersey Firearms Purchaser ID card under N.J.S. 2C:58-3c. Failure to do so is explicitly a “disability” under N.J.S. 2C:58-3c

A3676 also requires a privacy invading in-home inspection as a condition for issuance of an FID card, and A3688 requires submission of a list of household members with mental illness to the police to receive an FID card. Failure to obey these requirements are also explicitly “disabilities” under N.J.S. 2C:58-3c.

New Jersey law provides that an FID card is void if the holder becomes subject to a “disability.” Accordingly, if these bills take effect, ALL persons already holding an FID card who have not had the home inspection, psychological evaluation, or provided the list of household members (and thereby overcome the “disabilities” imposed by the legislation) MUST TURN IN their Firearms ID card to the Police. The turn in must be done within 5 days by law or face prosecution for 4th Degree Crime (Felony -18 months prison time.)   TAKE OUT YOUR OWN FID AND READ THE WARNING ON THE BACK… Continue reading

Sandy Hook, Newtown CT shootings: An accumulated collection of facts, assertions and posts

Updated 18 Jan 2013, 7:15PM EDT.  Grey Enigma.

Well the more I dig into all these conspiracy assertions, the less convinced I am that there is any ‘there’ there.  Most of the assertions that the shooting was embellished, staged, had factual errors etc. are not reasonable/  I.e. see here for an excellent synopsis-repsonse to all of that.  I find no compelling evidence that the shooting was any more than it was reported to be:  A murder spree, perpetrated by a nutjob.  If new evidence is published I might change my mind. GE.   ———

Previously I had stated:  The Sandy Hook / Newtown CT crimes puzzle me.  Having done a fair amount of forensic investigation in another life, there are so many things about this event that are too vague or coincidental to rule out some of what appear at first blush to be just kooky conspiracy theories.

In cases like this – i.e. where there is a lot of evidence, much of it testimonial and based on interviews of 1st hand witnesses and 2nd hand investigators – there will be few simple questions definitively answerable. Instead, the best a reviewer will be able to determine is simply the most reasonable inferences and explanations based upon the  facts and evidence. Continue reading
